UTILITY TAP PLANS

For help with Water or Wastewater Utility Tap Plans and permit, please email us or call and a representative will be available to help with all your questions

A Utility Tap Plan is a new utility service connection to an existing water or wastewater utility main. The utility mains are maintained by The City of Austin and surrounding city utility departments. Each property that is served or is proposed to be served has to have a single or double utility tap placed to the propertyline with a separate meter and/or clean-out for each unit on the property. The Taps Office processes these permits for both residential and commercial customers.

In order to propose a new Utility Tap to an existing main, upgrade an existing tap, upgrade a meter, cut-over from well or septic tank the AWU Taps Office requires a Tap Application to be filed. There is not an application fee to apply for a Utility Tap, however, several items are needed in order to process the application which may include a survey with topography, contours, and tree survey labels as well as a Utility Tap Plan signed and sealed by a Certified Professional Engineer. These requirements are different for residential and commercial.

Items for a proposed Utility Tap Plan may include but are not limited to:

W&WW Tap Plans
Austin Water Utility (AWU)
Pipeline Engineering
